Seeing Photographically
Hello & Welcome!
Welcome to Seeing Photographically! Paul and Maria are very much looking forward to welcoming you all to Cromford, and to help your preparations have put together a list of things to do, bring and think about. The weekend will be busy and inspiring, and participants are invited to contribute to the programme in a range of ways including discussions and sharing of work.
Preparation
You are each invited to introduce the group to two photographs.
The first will be an image THAT HAS NOT BEEN MADE BY YOU and will illustrate some aspect of ONE of the following themes – Light, Frame or Vantage Point.
Of course there are many ways to think about these themes and we encourage you to tackle this in any way that appeals to you.
The seond photograph WILL HAVE BEEN MADE BY YOU and can be any image that you would like to show the group. This image doesn’t have to be connected to the topic, it is a way of introducing you and your work to the group.
There really are no right or wrong ways to engage with this, but if you are worried at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for a helpful chat.
Please convert your images to .jpg format and resize them to something relatively low res (eg. 1500 pixels on the longest side 92 dpi). Ideally please email Maria with your images ahead of time or if you prefer bring them on the day.
Dates & Times
Seeing Photographically takes place at the Gothic Warehhouse, Cromford Mills on Fri, 18th to Sun 20th September. The Friday session will run from 14.00 – 16.00 with Sat and Sun beginning at 10.00 and closing at 16.30.
Coffee and Tea will be available from 13.30 on Friday and 09.30 on Saturday & Sunday. The workshop will finish at 16.30 on Friday and Sat.
Getting Here
Gothic Warehouse is positioned directly opposite Cromford Mills on Mill Road. Please note that googlemaps refers to the Gothic Warehouse as Wharf Shed. The warehouse entrance is situated at the end of the canal and will be clearly signposted.
Car parking is available at both Cromford Mills and Cromford Wharf sites and costs £7 for 8 hours. But if you park just a few yards along Mill Road at Cromford Meadows Car Park (see map below) the cost is just £4 for 24 hours. You can pay using Ringo or by cash.
A small amount of free on street car parking is available but it really is minimal and in high demand.
There is a regular train service between Derby and Matlock which stops at Cromford. The trains are operated by East Midlands Trains and Cromford station is just a 10 mins walk from the mills.
Refreshments
Tea / coffee & biscuits will be provided at intervals throughout the day, please let Maria know if you require dairy / gluten free or vegan options.
There are two cafes on site where lunches can be purchased, alternately you may want to bring a packed lunch.
