I am absolutely delighted to announce that my work How Old am I? is to be shown at the 2025 Wirksworth Arts Festival on September 13th & 14th, between 10.00 and 17.00.

The piece takes a sensitive yet humorous look at the relationship between an elderly lady living with dementia and her niece, who unexpectedly finds herself  in the position of sole carer for her aunt. The work comprises still and moving imagery and is presented on multiple monitors.

You can find How Old Am I? at venue 18 which is the Wirksworth Leisure Centre, DE4 4JG.

TEA - CAKE - CHAT

There is a special viewing on Saturday 13th @ 11.00 where there will be tea, cake and an informal chat about the work, and how dementia touches so many of our lives. Everyone is welcome, especially friends, relatives and carers of people living with dementia.

THE WORK

Jean is 90 years old. Until recently she lived alone in the house that she has called home since 1958. Her sofa is a ship from which she navigates the world and so long as there is tea, then all is well.

Jean is my aunt, and I am her only living close relative in the UK. In 2020 Jean began to experience symptoms of dementia and even though I live 150 miles away, I found myself unexpectedly thrust into the role of sole carer.

How Old Am I? is about Jean, her changing world, and our unique time together.

It would be wonderful to see some of you there – please do come and say hello!
